Glossary of Terms

December 16th, 2008

This post defines some of the terminology used within the blog postings so that you can understand the lingo I use.

BTO - Bought to Open
The purchase of a security to establish a new long position or add to an existing one.

BTC - Bought to Close
The purchase of a security to eliminate or reduce a short position.

STO - Sold to Open
The selling of a security to establish a new short position or add to an existing one.

STC - Sold to Close
The selling of a security to eliminate or reduce a long position.

Downside Protection
The percent the stock would have to drop for the breakeven price to be met. For example, if I buy a stock at $15 and sell a call option for $1, my downside protection is 1/15 or 6.67% and my breakeven is $14. So if the stock closes at $14 on the expiration date, my P&L is exactly $0.

Risk Capital
The most I stand to lose on a position.

Testing the ability for this thing to publish correctly.

And asking the question, do I want to use WordPress as my de facto CMS?  Not yet convinced about that.
